Anyone can lay a base coat. The money is in what happens after, and these are the parts most training skips because they're fiddly to teach.
- Veining with watercolours, control, pressure and knowing when a vein has gone too far to rescue.
- High sand polishing, the depth and sheen that makes a wall read as stone rather than paint.
- Gold leaf, application, sealing, and where it belongs on a job rather than everywhere.

Most marble tutorials start at the veining and end at the veining. This covers the full sequence, because the finish is decided long before you pick up a brush, and because a seamless run has to be planned from the first coat, not rescued at the last.

What the wall needs before anything goes on it, and the primer choices that decide how the rest behaves.
Base coats
Building the ground the marble sits on. Get this uneven and no amount of veining rescues it.
Background and shadowing
Creating depth in the base so the veins sit inside the stone rather than on the surface.

Before you enrol.
Do I need experience with Venetian plaster first?
It helps a great deal. Marble effects build on skills you get from standard Venetian work, trowel control, timing, reading when a coat is ready. Complete beginners do take this course and manage, but most people get further faster by doing the fundamentals first. If you're starting from nothing, the $27 class is the cheaper way to find out whether the trade suits you.
How long does it take to work through?
The videos themselves are a few evenings. Getting the finish reliable is a matter of practice hours, not course length, most people board out a wall at home and repeat each finish several times before taking it to a paying job. The people who get quickest are the ones who practise between modules rather than watching everything first.
What do I need to buy to practise?
Less than you'd think: plaster, watercolours for veining, a decent trowel and brushes, and something to practise on. The course lists exactly what to get and what to skip, and enrolling gets you supplier access with trade discounts, which usually covers a good part of the outlay on a first order.
How is this different from the Venetian Plaster Masterclass?
The Venetian Plaster Masterclass covers the core trade, marmorino, grassello, the fundamentals. This one is specialist decorative work on top of that: stone effects, veining, gold leaf. Different skill, higher rate, fewer people offering it.
Can I charge for marble effects after this?
That's what it's for. How quickly depends entirely on your practice, and we'd always say build samples you're happy to show before you quote. Rates vary by region and finish, and pricing is covered rather than left for you to guess at on your first job.
How long do I have access?
Lifetime. Modules stay available to come back to, which matters more than it sounds, most people rewatch the veining section before a job months after finishing the course.
